Christchurch, S. Island
Well after checking out of our Cairns hostel in Australia at 10am, we finally made it to Christchurch in the South Island at about 7pm, the following day due to an incredibly long connecting flight in Auckland!
Christchurch is renowned for being very much like England and, although it does look similar (but nicer!), it certainly didn't rain! In fact, we had been looking forward to some cold weather after a whopping 36C in Cairns, but when we arrived the temperature was about 26C! Fortunately though the humidity wasn't anywhere near as bad!
We had planned originally to buy another car to drive around both the North and South Islands and then attempt to make some more money. However, given that we only plan on staying in New Zealand a month and the shocking state of their 'budget' cars, we made the decision to rent a car to drive around both islands. We managed to find a rental car for just $19 per day, which we thought was good value, until we picked it up! The car itself is ok, except for the horrendous rattles, dents and scratches!
